The Home Hill Landslide Pinot Noir 2023 is an elegant, medium-bodied wine named after a landslip that occurred on the property thirty years ago.

With its dark ruby colour, this Pinot Noir opens with enticing aromas of dark chocolate, cinnamon, and nutmeg. The mid-palate reveals ripe blackberries, boysenberries, and earthy forest floor notes, creating a well-balanced wine with soft tannins and a savoury finish.

This refined Pinot Noir is ideal for enjoying now or cellaring for up to 7 years.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Dark chocolate, cinnamon, and nutmeg, followed by blackberries, boysenberries, and forest floor.

Palate: Medium-bodied with soft tannins, showcasing dark fruits and savoury earthiness.

Finish: Light tannins with a savoury, lingering finish.

Winemaking

The wine was aged for 9 months in French oak barrels, with 2% new oak, to subtly enhance its structure without overwhelming the fruit. This careful oak integration allows the wine to retain its elegant profile and balance, while ensuring the soft tannins and savoury finish are beautifully framed.

About the Vineyard

The vineyard was planted out in 1992 with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sylvaner grapes. The grey loam, high-clay soil and reliable rainfall provide excellent growing conditions for these varieties.

The Huon Valley sits on the same degree of latitude as Bordeaux in France (albeit forty-three degrees south of the equator rather than north). These regions share a similar climate, with winters featuring fog, frost and snow, and an abundance of spring rain. This allows for the slow ripening of fruit during warm months and the perfect conditions for cool climate wine to be produced.

Huon Valley

The Huon Valley is Tasmania’s southernmost wine region, and by extension, the southernmost wine region in all of Australia.

Following the winding path of the Huon River from Lake Pedder to the D'Entrecasteaux Channel, this region offers a unique cool-climate growing environment. The north-facing vineyards are sheltered from the cold southerly winds, benefiting instead from a maritime-influenced climate.

The gentle warmth of summer allows for a slow, extended ripening season, resulting in high-quality Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and sparkling wines.

This extended growing period enhances the complexity and finesse of the wines produced here, making the Huon Valley an ideal region for crafting elegant, cool-climate varieties.
